J.P. Bickell Foundation Supports "Love Nourishes: Minds & Bodies" initiative at Fife House

Logo for JP Bickell FoundationToronto, ON (November 2023) — Fife House is proud to announce and acknowledge a generous grant from the J.P. Bickell Foundation, in support of our “Love Nourishes: Minds & Bodies” initiative.

Fife House serves a resilient and diverse community, including seniors, women, members of the IBPOC and 2SLGBTQIA+ communities, newcomers, and refugees –  all of whom are living with HIV/AIDS. Many live near or below the poverty line and face challenges in putting food on the table on a daily basis, while dealing with stigma related to their HIV status. These situations have been worsened by the COVID-19 pandemic, the affordable housing crisis, and more recently, escalating living costs.

This timely and generous grant from the J.P. Bickell Foundation will therefore help enable Fife House to alleviate food insecurity amongst our residents and clients in the city, by providing over 4000 warm and nutritious meals. In addition, the grant will also enable Fife House to offer a number of personal care, grooming services, and recreational opportunities that are aimed at reducing isolation and promoting community integration. Collectively, these efforts are anticipated to positively impact and enhance the physical and mental well-being of over 500 individuals.

According to Nadine Sookermany, Executive Director of Fife House, “This grant from the J.P. Bickell Foundation enhances our capacity to address the growing need for creative and bold food insecurity initiatives in our city by ensuring our clients and residents are able to receive warm meals and also the additional support needed for a better quality of life. These funds are crucial not just in enabling Fife House to provide support for our vulnerable clients, but it also represents a vital investment in our community to make Toronto a more equitable and inclusive city for all. “
